Carnival of the Black Elves
The Great Eight
The Dark Elves of the old school variety prefer their combats to look very formal, stylised, and graceful.
Originally done with only the trio of Crossbow and Dagger, Rapier and Buckler,
then finally the Two Handed Sword. Various styles were added over the years as trends and fads for the fights came and went. p.
The first added was a heavy shield and hammer,
then a spear and small shield. Around the same time the various styles began using stylised armour to make all the shields stand apart from each other. p.
A few hundred years passed and the Lucern Hammer( later expanded to include any pole arm), then the Lantern and flying blade ( the lantern is a large hollow ball with an oil resevoir and fire brazer that splashes fire onto its target or casts light or smoke, The Flying blade is only rarely the large blade type, and is most commonly a short sword length blade which is joined to the lantern with a twenty to thirty foot length of fine chain) .
Designs for individual styles evolved and small variations began appearing like trading a buckler for a dagger, or a hammer for a pick, but the most common appearing was the paired weapon. Any pair of matched weapons from clubs, to scimitars, to daggers became an accepted style. p.
With the eight styles more or less agreed upon, and the variations on each weapons styles were carefully noted, studied and made available for all pure fighters to show off with and generate the most money from the oldest and most popular venues. p.
Places like Twin River Spire, Sea break, Titan Vale, Sunrise Manors East Garden, the floating city called Flotsam and many more could host a minimum of ten thousand spectators in giant bowl shaped arenas. p.
Many were buily in reserved sections of large families estates, with much smaller arenas for more exclusive audiences built all over the world. Many had their own house weapons and rules, most only fought to the point of moderate injury, with some to death on particularly high stake matches. Many communicated regularly to protect themselves from frauds as the industry inevitably dries out some, who need to be protected till they paid their debts.p.
Places like Twin River Spire are marvels in and of themselves with magic doors that bring spectators from all over the world, to the insides of a hollowed out mountain top. The specially carved structure moans and howls in the freezing winds, with special ante chambers for choirs to sit in and sing with the winds, adding a haunting and creepy score to every fight for upwards of fifty thousand spectators. p.
Sea Break is a massive glacier anchored to an island in the northern extremes of the world, and home to the most favoured of the mazes in the major league circuit of Great Eight arenas. Able to quickly and easily change the mazes carved entirely from ice, lined with traps and cold world monsters. It has the longest of all fight seasons, it has had non stop fights hosted there for over six hundred years, with average population of eighty thousand and an event population of three hundred thousand with scrying pools.p.
Titan Vale is one of the worlds last natural formations, with most of the rest altered in some fashion to suit the Black Elves tastes. It is the site of a millions of years old crater, and home to most of the major churches from across the multiverse. p.
Churches of every description line the inner face of the natural bowl shape, with ranks of steps carved and crammed full of one type or another somewhere inside the mass. There are lanes, and avenues arrayed in an orderly and sensible fashion.
Proper order in a perfectly segmented wheel formation with a massive audience ring in the very centre, for when prophets and deities spoke to upwards of a million spectators. With an average monthly population of well over three hundred thousand, and roughly a third of the year at its max capacity when the church crap is hauled out of the centre and the fights are hosted there for special events. p.
Sunrise Manors, East Garden at the edge of the worlds capitol city(—), and built on the fringe of the Emperors own front yard (though discreetly seventy miles away from the actual house he sometimes lives in.), the massive arena can host only one thousand at full capacity within line of sight of the actual arena. Hundreds of scrying pools are arrayed around thousands of specially built hotels, connecting the world with a network of magic portals and bisected by four major rail lines and highways, the actual spectator volume for big events is over six million with scrying pools across the capitol. p.
The Floating City was originally an island five hundred miles to the south of the current one, and was built entirely of the washed up remains of hundreds of ships. After a few hundred years the locals built a new one much closer to the trade routes on the wide oceans to keep ignorant foreigners off their gorgeously sculpted city on a volcano with glass magma tubes, and avenues. The locations is mostly sought after for its highly polluted atmosphere that turns the sky as red as blood, and paints wonderous colours on everything. The Black Elves love it all the more for its dangerous nature. They also enjoy making their slaves endlessly scrub the ash off their pretty white buildings. p.
The new Floating City is once again made from junk, but is actually ten times larger than its namesake, can host upwards of fifty thousand spectators and hosts more portals to other worlds than any other arena, as well as many portals traversing Ethear as well. p.
Thousands of other arenas dot the world, hosting everything a body can imagine and a great many they shouldnt have. Every theme and every style can be found, and every one of them a source of income to folks all over the world.
